    Hello,

Wow what a great forum. I hope I can get a lot of support and advice from you and help you back somehow.

My hubby recently bought me Daisy, my gorgeous shit tzu. I have wanted a Shih Tzu for over 10 years. She is 8 weeks old and a feisty little girl. The problem is my other dog Cougie Bear who is a 6 year old Black german shepherd dog. We have in the past fostered pups and he has been fine, Daisy however he does not seem to have time for. Cougie even growled at her today which he doesnt normally ever do??

I must mention ALL other pets were male and Daisy is a bitch. Cougie has so far gotten up if she sits by him and growled (which he has NEVER done before when she plays with his tail. He also eats his food quicker lol to avoid Daisy eating it.

Any advice would be appreciated as I love them both so much. crying

Thank you and I hope I can be of help to others in the future xxx

First of all a very big welcome from me group cheer

I wouldnt worry too much with them both as this happens with alot of new arrivals, for the time being the only thing to worry about is the size difference as if pushed he could snap and hurt her...Most dogs take time to come round and settle and some can take weeks, i would just bide your time and treat them both the same with time out for your older dog as puppies can be annoying at time Twisted Evil

I know daisydotes ( Sandra ) had the same problems settling little Louie in and also i brought a couple of older dogs in and times were hard at first with growls and snappiness but it soon settled down.

The main thing you have to remember is puppies can be a nightmare for pestering others and i can see why other long term dogs get fed up so give him time out now and again, these things just take time and as long as hes not been aggresive then things should work out just fine.

Good luck and keep us updated

Hi and welcome to logo .

Great advice from Fluff as usual. daisy

I had a similar problem when introducing Louie to my two girls.

Daisy in particular was very off with him and would not have anything to do with him for a few weeks.

Hattie came round quicker and they are best mates now.

Daisy is still top dog or should that be bitch lol! and Louie knows this so all in the fur family is brill now.

Do you have a crate for Daisy?/

I found this helped as when Louie became too much for the girls just like all puppy's will I just popped him in his crate which gave them a bit of peace and quiet and Louie usually fell in to an exhausted sleep. lol!

he also slept in the crate at nights and when I went out I always crated him then I knew he was safe and sound and the girls were having some quiet time.

Gradually I started to leave him with the girls in the utility room and now the crate is packed away and they are all in together and no probs at all.

I am sure everything will work out fine some dogs just take longer to accept a newcomer than others.

Hi there welcome from me too! cheers

Bex and Sandra have given you fab advice already and I can't add to it other than to say be patient and things will settle. We have just had it with a pup we recently bought home.. our one shih tzu who loves every dog she meets, growled and did not take to her at all.. it took about 2 months and they still dont really play.

Hang in there and let us know how things go.

    Hi there.
Things are MUCH better thank you. You were right, they get along at their own pace. so much so that Cougie the GSD lets her sit by him now and is growling less and less.
Thanks so much for your words of wisdom. xxxxxx
