Re: Welcome Shihtzumumtobe
Well, I won't have mine with a full coat, just a puppy cut maybe a bit longer as I have the time to groom.
I just personally don't like the shaved look but when I think about it, why should not having the time to spend hours grooming stop someone from having one of the cutest breeds out there! Bit rude of me really seeing as I've never actually owned one!

Re: Welcome Shihtzumumtobe
sorry Leanne have changed your settings so you can PM Maggie now
Length of coat is just a personal choice like Fluff says long and flowing is hard work and not everyone has the time or inclination to go this route.
Puppy cut is lovely as well and easy to maintain if you have a busy lifesyle
I have two in full and one in puppy cut when you find your perfect fur baby you will be able to decide which route you wanna go down

Re: Welcome Shihtzumumtobe
Hi Leanne, welcome from us too. Well done on spotting the bad breeder and doing your research. Good luck ringing round, it will be soooooooooooooooo worth the wait
I'd just see how you get on with grooming when your baby gets here. I have one who I have never cut and never would as she keeps herself so clean and I just have to glide a comb through her and do her top knot and I know clippers would stress her out too much. The other matts so close to the skin and she hates being groomed no matter what I do that she is shaved and bounces round like a little lamb, i think she really prefers it without that heavy coat.

Re: Welcome Shihtzumumtobe
A little update. I have been in contact with a lovely breeder who currently has no pups but has invited me to meet up with him at a dog show coming up this month to meet him, his shih's and his friend dog who is the father of puppies due around August! He is friends with the owners of the bitch too so he knows they are good breeders.
I'm excited! Obviously this is only a meet and greet and doesn't mean I'm guaranteed anything but it's a step in the right direction!
I've never been to a proper dog show but I'm also strangely nervous incase I'm not liked! I am only 21 so I hope that doesn't put them off in anyway.

That's pretty cool Leanne. If he and the other person are good folks, then maybe they'll give you good pointers on the dogs.

Re: Welcome Shihtzumumtobe
Well I went along to the dog show today and it was great. I was so nervous about meeting Joe but he was so nice as were all the other people with him and his dogs were soooo lovely. The breeder came along with the stud and he looked great and has such a nice nature, so happy.
They answered all the question I asked and told me lots of things about shiddies, I had a lot of fun. They even let me take them out for a little walk after they were shown...I wanted to steal them!
Her pups are due the first or last week in May (I can't remember) and then we can go veiw them when they are about 4/5 weeks old.
Excited!!

Re: Welcome Shihtzumumtobe
How fab Leanne, I swear the wait makes it even the more exciting and seeing them at that age and hopefully picking one is just the best feeling ever. What colour is mum and dad?

Re: Welcome Shihtzumumtobe
That's really great that everyone was cool w/ you and let you see and handle the dogs. I'm happy for you. Pics will be a must when you get to see them as newborns. G/L.
I'm w/ Jules on this. Seeing them as little handfuls will make you want them more and more and then finally getting them will make it worth the wait.
I really wish I could have seen my Benj as a newborn.

Re: Welcome Shihtzumumtobe
The father is black and white and the mum is gold and white so I won't know the colouring untill they are born...I'd love a black and white one as I fell in love with Nico, the dad!
I'm very glad I went the right way of doing this as I know I will have help for live. She even said she'd doggysit if I go on holiday etc which is nice.
I can't wait for them to be born now!

Re: Welcome Shihtzumumtobe
Well, I first wanted a girl but after meeting the dad and saw how affectionate he was....I may choose a boy!
But to be honest I'm not that fussed as its alot to do with nurture rather than nature when temperment is concerned, well imo.
I'll just go see the pups and decide then.
